Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Named after the constellation "Apus", which is also known as the "bird of happiness", he is a frozen hatchling which likes to spend his time sleeping. It is said that people who happen to witness the moment he awakes and opens his eyes are gifted with happiness for one whole year.

Possessing no scales, he is defenceless to attackers or the like. Therefore, he depends on the protection of others. People who have experienced happiness through him have built a shrine for him, in which he is residing, to express their gratitude. In there, he is treated like a deity, receiving food as offering and the like.

However, if Apus really has the power to bestow happiness to others, this remains a mystery.
