Sunsong Amphipteres are an unusual breed. Due to light interference caused by their magical nature, they don’t seem to be affected by any ambient light source. However, when struck by direct sunlight, they shine a brilliant gold. They are playful and ever in flight; their ethereal and mysterious appearance and the fact that they are usually only seen at a distance have led many to believe they are a symbol of hope and good fortune.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

A proud dragon of unusual size for her breed, this female considered herself the guardian of the particular stretch of jungle in which she dwelt, and as such was always vigilant in its defense. She challenged bandits, beasts, and black magic without fear in defense of her home... but she could not challenge the thing that appeared before her, one black night, when all the stars went out. It was a seething mass of shadow, draining all light around it, roaring through her world like a wave--and leaving nothing behind. Devastated by her loss, she swore over the ruins of her home that she would never quell before the darkness again, and set out in pursuit of that cursed entity. She does not go to fight alone, however; the lords of the countries that border her home have both risen to war, preparing to battle to the bitter end against the abominable wave.
