Storm Dragons are the masters of the skies. They are excellent fliers and land only to rest and eat. In addition, they have full control of the weather. They are very hot-tempered and easily angered. They will attack any human that bothers them, conjuring strong winds and dangerous lightning.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Nulai has assigned himself the task of guarding his master's territory and other dragons because he realizes that Tender Talon is simply human and cannot be everywhere at once. But with his power over weather, he can protect a vast area from one spot. Nulai keeps out unfamiliar humans and dragons by frightening them off, because he fears that if he were to kill anything, Tender Talon would no longer care for him. He believes this despite Tender Talon's attempts at dispelling his fears. Nelai's mate is Xhahx, they have not made any attempts at starting a family only because the nest cave (which is actually an enormous basement made to look like a cave) isn't big enough for the family they want, but Nelai has persuaded Xhahx to wait for a little while.
