Feisty and energetic, Whiptail Dragons pride themselves on their speed and agility. It is not unusual to see several whiptails racing each other. Though fragile, they can easily evade attacks with their superior speed, and often use their long tails as a weapon, giving rise to their name.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Strangletail is one of Phoenix's dragons. He is a moderately friendly dragon who, like most whiptail dragons, is proud of his tail. He is the opposite of his mate, Floatyflop, the ballon dragon, in every way. It's really too obvious to be worth stating the differences there, but nevertheless they have led a happy life. Strangletail is best friends with his daughter Blurfoot, one of Phoenix's frozen hatchlings. They like to frolic and play together, as Floatyflop doesn't like to do anything but float among clouds all day long.
