Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Mokou is the heir to a very special lineage, one in which the heir must be male. When she hatched female, rather than the others accepting it, she was encouraged to disguise herself as a male, while spells were located to allow her to breed with females when she came of age as if she were truly male. For this reason, she is officially recorded as male. She is as wild and tomboyish as such treatment could possibly inspire, and is energetic to the point of aggressive. She is an incredibly skilled fire mage, and sometimes can be seen racing Yukari or Rin through the sky, trailing fire like a blazing phoenix. She is not the most faithful of mates, but none of her lovers complain for fear of not getting her attention again.
