This breed of dragon was thought to exist only in legend. Although their name varies between cultures, they are often referred to as “Guardians of Nature.” They are able to channel the forces of fire, ice and lightning, which allows them to wield tremendous power. Seen very rarely, it is thought that they only become active when something is threatening the territory they have chosen to guard. In order to protect their chosen home, these dragons are incredibly adaptable; they have been seen everywhere from remote mountain ranges, to ancient forests, to the darkest depths of the ocean.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

In the Centre of the Kingdom lies a castle that has been the stronghold to a fearsome being for centuries. As king, Shimrii protects the citizens with all his might and in return they remain loyal and loving towards him. Shimrii is very devoted to his people and spends much of his time encouraging them to rescue and take in younglings who have been orphaned. The rest of his time is spent in the confines of his chambers, laying on tapestries from all the lands and yearning for a mate. When the time is just right, he conducts the summoning ceremony personally in hopes of being gifted with another like him, another who will be his mate and queen for the rest of eternity. Each attempt is met with a resounding failure, but Shimrii tries to keep his spirits up. To fill this absence, he sets out on pilgrimages to each of his four provinces, accompanied only by his personal guard of Embers, rumored to carry the blood of the carnivorous Black Marrows.
