This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Vampyras is a small, vampire hatchling from Lithuania during the 12th century. As an egg, Vampyras was found by a poor man who sold the egg for a great deal of money. The egg was sold to a rich man, who guarded the egg carefully. But one night, the egg was stolen, and was taken to Russia where the egg was then stored away. After many years, Vampyras hatched. Nobody is brave enough to go near the cave where Vampyras's egg had been hidden, because at night they can ear the screeches of the small dragon.
