Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. When it basks in moonlight, it is surrounded by a faintly glowing aura.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This hatchling lives on an island in a remote mountain lake. She likes to go to the lakeside, put her snout in the water, and blow bubbles up to the surface. She particularly likes it if any of the bubbles remains on top of the water instead of popping immediately; she will stop blowing more to watch where the unpopped one travels. Usually this is a very brief break, and she gets right back to blowing more bubbles.

Occasionally, a bubble gets more than two hatchling lengths away from her. When that happens, she will fly to follow it until it pops. Rarely, one will travel almost to the other side of the lake before popping. She is cautious about nearing the far bank because there are woods there.

Blobubbels was taught that dangerous things live in the woods; it is not safe for a hatchling to venture there. Staying put on an isolated island in the moonlight is much safer, so that is what she does. Besides, it has the -best- spot for blowing bubbles.
