Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Knight of Violet, usually simply known as Knight, has a rather deceiving name. Although brave, Knight dislikes fighting, and is called by many a pacifist, though he disagrees with that label. He will only fight when absolutely necessary, preferring to flee if possible. Despite this, Knight is a selfless and loyal dragon, always willing to help others with their problems, so long as they do not involve violence. Knight's friendly nature, along with his striking purple fins, has made him rather popular with female dragons. However, Knight has never pursued a female dragon. This is because he is in love with a Heartseeker dragon named Matchmaker Cocoa. Unfortunately for Knight, Cocoa is a male dragon. Knight does not possess the courage to admit to his infatuation to the Heartseeker, although he has confided in a few good friends. He fears that his fellow dragons will ridicule and harass him for his love, and so he has become somewhat secretive, taking off whenever Cocoa comes near him.
