And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

The Present Pecker is quite an interesting hatchling. Like all Yulebucks, he was born with a beak-like projection, which he considered useless for anything but cracking open ornaments, as this little mischievous hatchling still sometimes does. But one day he came upon a child trying to open a Christmas present. Deciding to help, The Present Pecker used his beak to peck a hole in the present, and the child happily tore it open. Since then, he has acquired some fame in the nearby villages for helping little children open their presents. If anyone wishes for their presents to be opened, all they must do is leave a candy cane nearby, and The Present Pecker is sure to show up soon. But they must be careful to hide their ornaments because he can't resist cracking open one or two every so often.
