Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Purui was named after the purui fruit, as it was the only thing she has ever eaten. She refuses to eat other foods because she cannot eat the baobab fruit until she grows up. Being frozen, she will never gorw up. The baobab fruit contains toxins that are deadly to small dragons, and Purui does not understand this. Her parents are concerned that Purui will try to steal some of the forbidden fruit and get sick. Purui wishes for the day when she can taste the sweet baobab and finally stop the pride battle between her and her parents.
