Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The islands surrounding Alba may seem an inhospitable home to the untrained eye, but for Mabil, it was all she could wish for. A few other Blacks had already divided the larger islands, but a rocky islet somewhat out into the ocean was free for the taking. Ere long young males flocked to her islet vying for attention, and before she knew it she was building a nest out of bones and fur for her first egg. While she was hunting on the mainland close to the coast, a cacophony of the seabirds nesting in the cliffs indicated something was wrong. As she flew towards her home, a tsunami crashed into the high cliffs and in some places even spilled over. Her own island was completely over-swept by the huge wave, her brittle nest lost to the sea. Although she does not know which of the Tsunami Wyverns did it, she has acquired a deep hatred for all of them. Yet even a large Black dragon is no match for an enormous Tsunami, and her egg still lays unavenged.
