Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Hiss Scorchearth, preferring to go by Terra, was considered blessed, as he hatched with wings fully developed for flight. But after several years and minimal growth, it seemed he was doomed to be forever a hatchling. But Terra, ever the optimist, found a way to take advantage of his young form. Working with Secret, a Sunsong amphiptere and fellow eternal hatchling, the two manage to be one of the most successful recon teams. With the Hellfire keeping her airborne, Secret's sharp eyes can scan and memorize entire landscapes. And Terra's slightly vicious nature has resulted in the blinding and deaths of many larger foes. And if the two are wounded, their young bodies heal quickly, allowing for recovery in as little as three days.
