Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s very festively colored.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Dragon Claws was a kind soul who would create wooden toys for the good children of the world.  He would deliver them during Christmastime because he enjoyed the sight of snow.  This, sadly, was his downfall--he was never smart enough to wear a jacket, so he grew terribly cold and passed away.  After he was canonized by the Imperial Order of the Dragonhood, he was miraculously reincarnated as a dragon.  Now, he works as the head of the Christmas Dragon Committee, training Christmas Dragons to deliver Christmas Joy as best as they possibly can.
