Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

When he was a hatchling, Jiru was trained to become a member of the clan guard, as was the case with his older siblings. However, he preferred to serve the clan on his own as a chaperon for dragons attending meetings with other families. Currently, Jiru accompanies members of the Sylvain clan who venture out into neighboring territories to meet with potential mates, so that an affectionate match will result in a peace alliance between the clans of the two dragons. Having thwarted a few attempts at romantic subterfuge during his years as a bodyguard, Jiru is now no stranger to scheming and inter-clan intrigue. He keeps his battle skills sharp by chasing away unsuitable suitors who try to get too close to the family.
