This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Unlike her brother, Vallye more or less enjoys being a frozen hatchling. While she still has a sharp tongue and a sharp wit, Vallye is easily the least fearsome of the four Vampires. While she does enjoy occasionally teasing the other hatchlings in the cave (particularly Lyude) Vallye prefers to spend most of her time studying. She likes hearing information from different viewpoints, but she grows exasperated quickly if she hears too much of the same thing. When she isn't studying, Vallye spends the rest of her nights sparring with her brother, Skeed, or chasing after the adult Vampires, Ayme and Folon.
