Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Vondran knew he wasn't a Moonstone dragon like his "mother" Irapul, but he loved her very much nonetheless and would do anything to make her happy. Irapul quickly picked up on this. One day Irapul went into the storage room where Vondran was living and angrily ordered him to commit a terrible act; kill the egg of another dragon. This wasn't any egg though. This was the egg of the Hellfire wyvern and her only mate, the same one that Irapul wanted above all the others. Vondran begged his "mother" not to make him do it, only to succumb at last to her threats; he was to either do this or Irapul would reveal the Vampire dragon to all of Shadow-singe and he would be killed on the spot. Desperately, Vondran sought the egg and injected it with his venom. The next day the Hellfire wyvern and her mate realized their only egg had been killed. It took merely hours to discover that the murder was Vondran and Irapul. Instead of killing them, Yarchris, for once, commanded that they both be banished.
