And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This feisty winter hatchling was born during a dark time when activities around the cave began to slow into a meaningless torpor. He watched his clanmates moan for food, hatchlings nestle into the scales of adults or each other for comfort. The Supernova Dragons grew thin and despairing, despite resilient leader Tamira Brightwing's encouragements. The hatchling found solace in the hatchlings around him...but slowly, surely, they all grew up, leaving him with no one to play with.

Lonely and outcast, the hatchling began to wander. Each day his wanders grew further and further from the dragons who abandoned him. But one day, he wandered too far...and saw the lagmonster. Now, he might have been scared for life by the terrifying sight, but he has instead become obnoxious and bothersome. From that day, he constantly reared up and bellowed "I AM THE LAGMONSTER!" for all to hear. He has no real name, but the others call him 'The Hatchlagling' because of his impersonations of the lagmonster.
