Shimmer-scale Dragons are a very beautiful breed with small—but highly reflective—scales that shimmer and shine as the dragon moves through water. They don’t have fins or webbed feet, but their long, eel-like bodies allow them to swim quite fast. They were once rumored to carry large pearls in their claws—causing many to seek them out in search of this fabulous treasure. In reality, the “pearl” is of greater value to the dragon, for the fabled treasure is actually an egg carried by a migrating female.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

She was simultaneously the best darn pirate and the weirdest darn pirate anyone that side of the Great Sea had ever laid eyes on. Born to a seafaring mother who passed away shortly after, she inherited a massive dragon boat and a quirky but extremely loyal crew and used both to plunder other buccaneers as far as the eye could see. As if the sight of her wasn't bizarre enough--a pint sized young dragon bossing around beasts three times her age, preying on pirates--her use for the treasure was even odder; she gave more than half of it away to those in need!

Yet--and this was the oddest thing of all--that was only the normal part of her story.

One day a massive bird appeared in the sky and attempted to seize her. While she escaped, the incident led to her meeting a young dragon who tried to save her life--and saw his sister kidnapped as a result. Bound together by a story they didn't yet understand, the two's adventures would lead to doing battle with a great evil to save a great good...
