Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has bright blue eyes, and is as clumsy as any other hatchling, but it never seems to get injured.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Leukos, Nina's second orphan, is a withdrawn hatchling, who attempts to lose himself in the background. This is difficult, however, as his feathers and scales are so brilliantly, purely white as to be practically reflective. For a hatchling, his magic is prodigious in strength, but erratic and unpredictable. He has only the barest control over it, and seems to almost be pulled out of him if a nearby dragon is in great enough need, which can cause him to faint. Albus has been trying to train him, but this has proved difficult, because Leukos is terrified of all dragons but Nina and Myrablis, and clings to the latter's side like a bur. Leukos speaks only to those two, and will cower helplessly on the ground if approached by another dragon.
