Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Unlike most other frozen hatchlings in his clan, Atakay takes great pleasure in being frozen. To what extent this pleasure goes to is unknown, but it certainly is a disturbing amount, possibly to the point of insanity or obsession. "Oh well," Atakay will giggle out loud if he hears others speaking ill words of him, "oh well." He is often seen far out in the distance, keeping completely still as a lonely sunset dapples on the dark, thick sheet of water above the abyss waiting below. "Oh well," he often mumbles as an uncanny grin forms on his face. He seems to absolutely love watching other dragons on the shore, whether they're aware or unaware of his abnormal presence. He has always sucked in the dubious joys of unintended immortality. Always.
