Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It was born with a full set of wings.

And look! Its wings have grown larger! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This creature is the awkward lovechild of a Ridgewing and a Cavern Lurker. Every bit as cute and innocent-looking as his father, his true nature isn't revealed until an unwitting passerby draws too close, at which point he leaps out and attempts to maul them to death. Right now the effect is more disconcerting than life-threatening, but people and dragons alike are a bit nervous about how things will go once he's a larger and more formidable psychopath.
