Magma Dragons are capable of withstanding the intense temperatures of their element. They live in volcanic regions, their bodies coated in the red hot magma which clings to their scales. They must leave the lava fields in order to hunt, although they require surprisingly little food to sustain their lumbering mass.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

A great trundling mass of a dragon, Bean is a true force to be reckoned with...when he isn't drowsing. He is quite venerable, though always seems to be irritated about something or another, making approach from other dragons in the clan difficult and rather a nuisance. The main reason for his habitation of a lava-field far from the home cave is not entirely due to the fact that he is a Magma—his snappy behavior and bad habit of nipping younger, excitable dragons to 'cool them off' quickly drove Preto Osso to harshly chase him from the main cave in order to keep the old-timer out of the way.

The Shield Maiden Taik, Bean's stern and equally narcoleptic mate, resides near him at all times, hunting just enough for the two of them to survive.
