Shimmer-scale Dragons are a very beautiful breed with small—but highly reflective—scales that shimmer and shine as the dragon moves through water. They don’t have fins or webbed feet, but their long, eel-like bodies allow them to swim quite fast. They were once rumored to carry large pearls in their claws—causing many to seek them out in search of this fabulous treasure. In reality, the “pearl” is of greater value to the dragon, for the fabled treasure is actually an egg carried by a migrating female.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Izaya Nuria the Angelus was the first shimmer dragon to be born on the highest mountain of Elgar. The other shimmers had been found by Ember, but Izaya was laid by her mother Celadonia. Izaya's father, Munir, was the first shimmer ever to come to Elgar, and he brought with him more peace than had ever been seen there. His kind, gentle, and understanding manner put everyone at ease, and Celadonia was one of them. The poor sparrow dragon had been abandoned with her child by her former husband, and had been living in tears until Munir came. When they met, they both knew they have found true love, and with Torio's happy consent, they became mates. Izaya became their first child together. Her charming and sweet personality made even her glittering scales seem dull. Izaya became fast friends with her brother Torio, and anyone would think they had always known each other. Despite his now happy family, Torio still harbors his anger against his father, and plans one day to return and release it.
