Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Vadim is an independent little dragon; he resists all outside influences and prefers to do everything on his own. He taught himself to hunt and fight, and, much to the annoyance of the adult dragons, is very resistant to authority. Any dragon who tries to assist him is immediately chastised, even his own mother. A positive outcome of his independence is the fact that he refuses to submit to Zatsu's ideas about Alternate Black dragons being superior to others. This angers Zatsu to no end, but Vadim can only snicker as the conceited dragon snarls in frustration. Though he may resist other's input, Vadim is no bigot and has chosen to judge all other dragons based on their character, not what's on the outside.
