Black Tea Dragons have small scent glands on the underside of their wing arm that release a pleasant scent. Though many creatures enjoy being in the vicinity of Black Tea dragons, the scent is intended to draw in swarms of butterflies. Though Black Tea dragons are full sized dragons, these insects are the mainstay of their diet.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. When she was a very young adult, Nilgiri became the object of a Terrae dragon's affections. Jerene seemed to fall in love with her almost on sight and was always trying to please her. She thought he was cute—he was rather clumsy and made dumb jokes—and very goodhearted, but she didn't hold him in particularly high regard, especially since Assam, her fellow Black Tea dragon and best friend since birth, thought he was beneath her. As she began to spend more time with Jerene, however, she realized how loving and generous he was and decided he would make an excellent father for her offspring. Plus, he was so infatuated with her—who wouldn't be, given her beautiful pink hide and the delicious scent that always surrounded her. After their first egg was laid, she vowed to consider Jerene a life mate. The two have been virtually inseparable since.
