And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Sir Skydream doesn't enjoy playing with other hatchlings, and prefers the company of adult

dragons instead. He often has contemplative ideas, and this has made him a welcome guest in any conversation. Some dragons feel irked about a "young fool" among the fully grown dragons, and this has made him struggle to prove that he is just as mature as they are. Skyedanncer supports him, though, and they are taking steps to gain Sir Skydream a place amongst the elders.
