Sunset Dragons are closely related to sunrise dragons. However, their behaviors differ greatly. Sunset Dragons generally live alone or in small packs. They are more active in the evening, hunting and performing all of their daily tasks as the sun sets.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hopena the fate-giver often offers to bequeath upon new parents' hatchlings a heavy responsibility resulting in glory and success for the hatchling. Usually parents believe Hopena to be losing his marbles but Hopena had been given a chance with some eggs that the beloved child raised by dragons brings back. All who doubted him were indubitably surprised with the truth. Hopena had bestowed upon the hatchlings the fate of the child's protector, the cave's protector, a shark-tamer dragon and its mentor. All of these hatchlings grew up to be strong, responsible, and successful. Now many of the parents within the cave come flocking to Hopena for their hatchling to receive a fate. Hopena always has to tell them that he has to refuse unless he sees potential. Hopena spends his time with the other sun dragons; Mo'o the sunsong, Bilcus the gold wyvern and his unofficial girlfriend Makawela the hellfire wyvern. They usually like to take a dawn and dusk flight once a week together.
