Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Avan is generally the only Holiday to stay behind when they disappear to... whereever it is they go after the holidays. He often says that he'd like to go—in fact, he often stares longingly after them—but explains that he can't leave. When the interviewer's apprentice pressed further, Avan revealed that the other Holidays often get stuck in that other place, and become reluctant to leave. Avan remains behind to ensure that any in Recila's Cave return home every year, and help spread the cheer for the holidays. He also mentioned that he's never actually gone, even though every instinct in him in screaming at him to leave at the end of the holidays. When the interviewer's apprentice thanked him for his sacrifice, Avan simply smiled and explained that he couldn't sacrifice what he never had before.
