This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

It was a rule...it was a LAW, that the Vampires would never bite the offspring of the herd, only the eggs stolen from elsewhere. And yet one fateful night, the rock-like egg of the Stone Dragons began to rot and fester, and out emerged the demonic hatchling.

Though Unending Solace—Vengeance tries to approach its parents, they attack him for they can no longer recognize him as their own.

Bearing the name of the one who did this to him, Vengeance only thinks about one thing, and that is getting revenge upon the culprit for stealing his life away.
