Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ife (pronounced Ee-fei) is one of the defendants of her clan. She and her mate Magatir live close to the east border, near the pine woods, and like the quiet and peace they get there. Ife brought her own egg back with her from the nest when she laid it, but was too late to save the other two of her clutch, by the time she tried to get to them they had been stolen. She is quiet and still for a black dragon, although she makes an effective guardian, and spends much of her time curled under the pines with Magatir and her child in the soft, dry layer of fallen pine needles and sandy earth.
