And look! It has grown larger fins! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This hatchling was forced out of its egg prematurely.

Dorsa'al has very strange circumstances indeed; born prematurely, he was always afraid of the bigger world. For some strange reason, he found out he was unable to grow and mature like other Dorsal Dragons, and he forever blames Alenchem Dorkface for this. He doesn't understand his purpose—always scared of the world and forced to stay in this tiny form. However, the other dragons sympathize with him and try to guard him from the more ugly parts of this world. Dorsa'al doesn't want to live his whole life sheltered though, and he hopes that one day, he will find the courage to face the world on his lonesome.
