Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Darkness's Crimson Embrace is leader of the vampire coven and is quick in giving savage discipline the other Vampires if they step out of line. She is a rather strange vampire as she spends most of her time in the day looking after the eggs and hatchlings. But when darkness reigns, she changes into the traditional Vampire dragon stereotype and will drain anything or anybody in her path. As a result, she will go hunting for wild prey or dragons from other clans. This is actually a blessing in disguise as it has greatly reduced competition for prey. She has also killed many members of rival clans who have dared to attack the clan and killed hatchlings or stolen eggs. She makes their deaths as slow and painful as she can, however for all the good things she does for the clan she can't understand why Blinking Will Be The Death of Us tossed her first bitten egg out of the cave. She has sworn revenge and is going to create a vampire army by getting the Coven to bite every egg he sires.
