Magi Dragons are, as their name suggests, primarily magic users. They rarely use physical forms of attack. They eat anything they can kill, which is almost everything. They won’t kill unprovoked except when hunting, although they may kill humans if in danger. Their strong magic makes them one of the most feared breeds of dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Monkerata is the lead Medius in the clan, 'Medius' meaning 'Magic user'. He is capable of hundreds of spells, many of which he created himself. His spells range from healing to entertaining to defense spells. During a war with the rival clan, Monokerata stands on top of the large cliff backing the clan base, often with his tiny assistant Urbanarum. He waits for an opening in the enemy's forces and then yells 'Deorsum!', warning the Herachus army to drop down for protection before he casts a large wave of magic that strikes the enemy forces.

As skilled in magic as he is, Monkerata will still have failed spells. Some spells may make rocks grow legs and scuttle away, whereas others may turn fire into ice and vice versa. One particularly fateful event had Monokerata trapped in a vortex of fire which he couldn't shake off, making it impossible to reach his notes to find a reversal spell. He eventually escaped by turning it into ice and melting it, but not before he was badly burned.
