Brute Dragons are among the larger dragon breeds. They prefer to live in solitude or small groups, nesting in high, mountainous regions. The only time they openly seek the company of others is during the mating season, when males will fight for the attention of females. The thunderous crash of Brute Dragons butting horns against each other in competition for mates can be heard nearly a mile away.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Brutus the Terrible had a name and reputation for just being mean all the time. Brutus could remember a time as a young dragon when he was sullen, cranky, and always ready for a fight but recently he had been brutal, even for a Brute Dragon. During mating season, he killed his opponents with such violence it amazed even him; the rage always felt like a white hot poker in the side of his head. One day after a particularly bloody fight over a female, he stopped by a watering hole to wash up. As he bent down he saw his reflection in the water and one side of his face was completely swollen and his lower jaw was kind of a green color. Brutus did not know what to make of his reflection, he reached up to touch the side of his face that was different, immediately the hot searing pain that always made him so mean was unbearable and he let out a growl so loud as it occurred to him it was a toothache. Brutus The Terrible wasn't so terrible after all.
