Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It always seems to be picking over its scales.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Liam loves to play with his mother Nala Illuminata because she doesn't constantly fuss over the state of his scales. Though his father Aaron De La Mer loves him very much, he is overly demanding, refusing to allow his son to play in the dirt or even to go swimming for fear of getting algae on his scales. Liam is easily annoyed and gets this way due to his father's overbearing demands, but his mother does what she can to placate her mate and get him to loosen up a bit.
