Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Rherys will challenge any travellers he meets to some kind of game. From the simple games of dice and noughts-and-crosses he played with Leilin and Trouble Wings, he has advanced to more difficult and complex tournaments of skill and intellect usually played by the elders of his species. Although he keeps close guard on his collection of winnings and even forces his siblings to reward him with trinkets and stones for the loss of a game, his real pride is his unmatched talent.
