Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Bolaj is gentle for a black dragon, devoted to the human that took him in as a hatchling. Just as the human cared for him as he grew, Bolaj now helps hunt for the human, and protects him when his battle-weakened shoulder gets the best of him. This gentleness does not corrupt his love for battle. He never backs down from a challange placed by another dragon, and is quick to demand a rematch at the mere thought of a loss, no matter how many times Bolaj has lost to this perticular dragon. Though he has met dragons who hate and resent their human caretakers, Bolaj loves his easy life with his strange two-legged companion.
