Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Silverbark Tree is one of Phoenix's dragons. He is a very silly and immature dragon who enjoys tying his tail in knots, for some reason or another. He named himself, seeing how much Silverwood Tree, Phoenix's female silver hatchling, was respected, but unfortunately it didn't have the same result. The other hatchlings and even some of the other dragons laughed—hard—at him for being so foolish. He even made a mistake in the grammar, making it 'SIlverbark' tree instead of 'Silverbark' Tree like intended. He now tries to forget that awfully permanent mistake. He often follows Silverwood Tree up the trees she climbs, drowning her in random questions. But with a flick of her tail, Silverwood Tree knocks him off and he falls unharmed at the base of the tree.
