Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s already quite large compared to other hatchlings, and appears to like roughhousing.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Brutus Ripclaw is the adopted son of Blackwing Ripclaw. Brutus was cursed when he accidentally stumbled into a witch's hut. The witch wasn't particularly friendly and bargained with Brutus. The deal was that she got to test a spell on him and he would be set free, or he is fed to the monster that supposedly lives under the witch's bed. Brutus believed that there actually was a monster under her bed (what hatchling wouldn't) and so let the witch use the spell on him and then was set free. Due to that incident, Brutus is a cowardly dragon with the unknown; however, with the known he is a force to be reckoned with.
