Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Because he is the younger brother of Xythus, the most evil gold in the clan, Xythes takes a a great deal of passive-aggressive rejection and abuse from the rest of the gold dragons. Even though he is not evil, the entire clan thinks he may play a role in whatever upcoming diabolical plan Xythus is scheming. Despite all this, he does not hate Xythus, but rather wishes that he could find out what happened to his older brother to make him behave like a traitor and outcast. Transfixed on the older days of siblinghood when Xythus was his idol and greatest role model (and he still is), Xythes wishes that his older brother has not completely lost it.
