Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Lonely for Valentine's Day was frozen on Valentine's Day so that he would forever stay with his master who is always lonely for Valentine's Day because he is scared of humans as well as his dragons. Most of his dragons have partners but only the hatchlings stay with him on Valentine's day. These include Alpha II, Fury-Of-Our-Troops, Sea Skimmer II and Thumbtack II, the only hatchlings left in the cave.
