Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Despite his feminine name and even more feminine color, Petitepaw is a fierce little fighter. His name doesn't come from a girl-like grace, but rather from how quietly he can stalk up to his victims before he attempts to bite their faces off. Even adult dragons are not safe from his attacks, because this juvenile delinquent will fight with anything he encounters, regardless of size.

Some say his berserker nature is a result of him being hit on by one too many male dragons in his youth, mistaken for a female.
