Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Boyo refuses to consider that he is anything but male. He has repeatedly tried to convince Kanaye that she wrote his gender down wrong on the little scroll she uses to keep track of the dragons in her cave. He has been caught twice trying to fix the long piece of paper, ignoring the fact that he cannot even hold a quill. Luckily, Kanaye caught him both times before he could do any irreparable damage.
