Valentine eggs are only seen once a year. Adults’ mating seasons are very short, usually spanning a few weeks in the mid-to-late winter. These dragons were once reputed to be omens of good luck in love.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Because of her breed, Awabeni feels self-conscious about how others react to her presence. She worries about causing incidents involving overly superstitious (and impetuous) dragons assuming that her being around guarantees them luck in love, and hopes that she never causes zealous spur-of-the-moment confessions leading to rejections. To deal with this, she keeps to herself and only visits the family members who are happily paired with lifetime mates.
