Silver Dragons are arguably one of the most beautiful types of dragons. They live in high altitude habitats such as mountains. Male Silvers hunt and eat meat. While not as beautiful or radiant as females, silver males possess better physical attributes, such as strength.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Magairle's family of Silvers and Guardians has been the ruling clan in Alba for centuries, living in balance with the other clans, but ageing leaders and lack of eggs has left them with strong enemies on all sides and less and less strength to fight them with. New breeds from other continents are migrating into Alba from every direction, strange dragons with toxic spikes or magical prowess, putting a strain on the available food.

As one of the younger and virile males in the family, Magairle is expected to revitalize the clan. Choosing a strong Guardian as his mate, success seemed guaranteed... but month after month they failed. Even worse, the constant failures leave him with little appetite to try again. Though proud and boisterous in his youth, he has become withdrawn and ashamed due to his inability to breed successfully, and dreads the moment his mate calls him to her cave once more.
