Blacktip Dragons are a small, shore-dwelling breed that tend to nest on sheer ocean side cliffs. They live in groups under a dominant female, who prevents her subordinates from breeding. During the mating season, a group of Blacktips can be very noisy and smelly indeed; males produce a distinctive musky odor and loud, low-pitched honking noises in an attempt to woo the alpha female.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Broken Wings greatly loves her mate, Salted Rain, and loves playing games with him. The two often fly together for their lovely trips, and at the end of the trip, Broken Wings always likes to look hurt and pretend that she somehow injured her wing during the flight, so that Salted Rain immediately feels obliged to care for her. As the alpha female, she occasionally pulls this trick on other males that have been trying to woo her, though this is mostly in an attempt to make Salted Rain jealous. This often doesn't turn out too well, but Broken Wings doesn't mind as she quite enjoys watching her mate fight other dragons for her. Luckily, if her mate is beaten in a fight, she will help to care for him. While she may breed with the winner of the fight once or twice, she always comes back to Salted Rain in the end.
