Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Foggy Waters is the last of the first four to mature in Silver Caves, and the first male. By the time he came to adulthood, the normal positions that someone of his breed and high ranking would receive were taken. At first he was depressed over the issue; he did not control the army, command the guard, and was not ruler of Silver Caves, as the three dragons he had come to view as his sisters did. A sick hatchling passed by him on its way to a pool of water as he thought of this problem, and he absent mindedly helped the hatchling on its way there. And then a thought occurred to Foggy Waters: Wasnt what he had just done as important as all the things his sisters did Wasnt protecting and helping the weak as important And what about guiding the strong, or encouraging those who were in between the two extremes From that moment, Foggy Waters pledged himself to the people. As individuals, as a whole, when ever they needed help, he would be there.
