Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Idoya Emer, named thus for her fluid grace and speed, lives in a pine forest. She is swift of wing, and if her human friend or clan-mates need her combat skill, she flies quickly to their aid. She hunts the creatures that make their home in her range, but only for food. Owls, deer, wolverines, forest-cats, and wolves make up her diet. She does not eat creatures that she makes telepathic contact with, because it is too painful for her. Humans that she attacks see her as cold and unforgiving, but she can only kill them if they fight back. Young of any kind of creature are exempt from her hunger, and she does not cannibalize other dragons. Idoya is fond of using electric jolts during hunts. A gigantic hollow tree whose roots have been dug out makes her lair, which she fills with any kind of valuable gem or mineral.
