Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

It was a mystery to all the other dragons what this egg was when it suddenly appeared in the cave. It certainly didn't look, feel or smell like a normal egg. But a second mystery was yet to come: suddenly the egg disappeared completely, and was only recovered after a few days, by its smell. After that, it hatched just fine, and showed all the signs of becoming a dragon, albeit a very particular one.

As the first of its kind discovered in the cave, it got the Latin name Draco Caseus, which obviously just means Cheese Dragon. Draco is a bit sad that it didn't get a proper name, but is also proud to be the first of its kind. It is also quite sad by being called 'it'; it wants to be a proper dragon, and it would like to have gender like all the others. But alas, some things were not meant to be.

Please don't anger the dragon by making references to fondue, cheeseburgers and such things. It is a very sensitive subject for one made out of food.
